City Center North Parking Structure

7-level parking structure in Downtown Oakland with retail on the ground floor

Modern Parking Structure creates Gateway to Oakland’s dynamic Civic Center

This new parking and retail structure in Oakland’s Downtown Civic Center area at 17th and San Pablo will park 525 cars on seven levels with approximately 6,000 SF of retail space at street level. The project provides much needed parking for this area of the Downtown Civic Center core. The City of Oakland retained Aegis Realty Partners to act as developer/project manager to deliver a “turnkey project.” KTA is an integral part of this effort.

The design of the proposed structure maintains a relationship to the adjacent Civic Center as well as the historic buildings in the area. The corner tower is seen from key points in the surrounding area and will act as a gateway to Oakland. The design of the structure is modern while recalling the massing, detailing, and texture of both the Beaux Art and Art Deco buildings in the area. The vertical emphasis is achieved by bay spacing narrower than usual for parking structures. This is a key element in both the proportion and scale of the building as it counters the negative expectation of the public towards parking “garages.”

The parking and retail structure will be both a prominent landmark and a supporting player in Oakland’s Downtown and will promote Oakland’s role as a dynamic economic center for the region.
