Art Deco style public parking structure for the City of Alameda

KTA designed a new seven-level 114,000 sf, 350 stall parking structure for the City of Alameda’s historic Alameda Theater expansion
The initial garage design by others lacked the historic significance and sensitivity to the historic Theater and received little support from the community and the City Council. The City commissioned KTA to redesign the parking garage “from scratch”. KTA redesigned the entire three-building Theater complex – Historical Theater, Cineplex and Parking Structure. This saved an estimated million dollars and has been overwhelmingly supported and praised by the Alameda community as well as visitors. It was reviewed and approved by the California State Historic Preservation Office.
The parking structure is part of the expansion project for the Historic Alameda Theater. KTA designed the articulated façade to be harmonious with the Historic Theater’s Art Deco design by renowned Bay Area architect Timothy Pfluger. KTA set the top two levels back to break down the mass and bring down the scale of the structure to better blend with the surrounding buildings while maintaining the required number of parking spaces.
