Museum Parc Condominiums
San Francisco, CA
A private developer with the assistance of the redevelopment
agency planned to build comfortable, market rate, high-rise condominiums in an
urban setting near San Francisco's thriving area for the arts - South of
Market near the Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Gardens.
Architects Klara Komorous-Towey and Thomas J. Towey in their
role as designer and project architect respectively, designed and oversaw the
construction of this elegant building. Museum Parc's condominium Owners were
anticipated to be art lovers who enjoyed the advantages of living near San
Francisco's financial, arts and shopping districts and would enjoy luxury
The design of the façade reflects the sophistication of the neighbors,
the innovative Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Gardens, which were on the
drawing board at the time. A large beautifully landscaped courtyard offers
residents a private retreat as well as views of this beautifully landscaped
area. Amenities such as a health club and pool were included in the design to
enhance the urban living experience. Commercial/retail space was incorporated
on the first level to provide life and interest to the street. Public parking
is provided on three levels in the underground areas of the building.
The individual units have floor to ceiling glass giving them far more
light than average city condominiums. Interior public spaces - main lobby,
elevators and elevator lobbies, reception desk, and corridors - were given
high quality finishes from granite surfaces to silk paneled lobby walls to
Kirkstone slate floors. Klara selected carpets, lamps, and designed custom
elevator call buttons to complete the refined effect.
The architects designed an enduring condominium building which will keep its attractive appearance through the use of quality, durable materials with
a minimum of practical maintenance.
